Hey Guys,

Just thought I try and help get this forum going and hopefully get some technical assistance.

Over the last couple of years I’ve been trying to find ways to reduce energy usage at the Work Station. I’ve tried to get the support of my employer to roll this Power Management technology across the Enterprise with no luck...

Anyway, to reduce Energy usage at the Work Station I’ve calculated the use of a Smart Power Board: http://www.ji.com.au/products/PT9778/ in combination with a Domain GPO. I tried for quite a while to get EZ_GPO working but in the end I ended up using powercfg VBS script in the logon folder, with this I noticed Power Management settings are changed within a couple of reboots and same again if the settings are changed in the script on the server.

I also put together a spreadsheet that will help me measure energy usage for all devices connected at the workstation but I’m not sure if the numbers are 100% correct, pretty sure it’s only out a fraction though :)

It’s taken me a couple of years in my own time to get this far as numbers aren’t my strong point! Please feel free to use or modify/improve on my documentation and please help me out if you find any inconstancies.

Also, I copied a lot of the information off the Net and got help from colleagues.

I would ideally like to provide this as a service to potential clients, amongst other green I.T technologies.

I wanted to prove that there are cheap and effective ways of implementing Domain Power management on Workstations, without the need of spending lots of money on Power management software packages.

Cheers

Stephen

Mandatory hibernation on user machines in a dispersed organisation needs careful consideration. How do IT support staff wake up the machines at a remote site for troubleshooting, patching, etc? Many standard remote access tools are not capable of this - for instance, Remote Desktop, Remote Assistance, SMS, VNC. Any suggestions of workarounds for this dilemma would be appreciated.
